The song "December" is deeply symbolic, but is also close to Luke's heart, representing his decades-long battle with depression. Using bleak, wintery images as the starting point, and the star of Bethlehem as the bridge, the song breaks through with a powerhouse chorus testifying to daily renewed faith. Much like the odyssey of the wise men following a constellation map to the birthplace of Christ, the journey to mental health can be treacherous and tedious, fraught with physical dangers and frequent misdirection. Fortunately, it is not a quest upon which one sets out in vain. There is an end to the journey, however improbable or inconceivable it might seem stumbling through the darkest night.
